Welcome to the 2019 Rum Diary Spiced National Cocktail Competition ‘From Cane To Glass’

Have you ever wanted to have a hand in creating a new product??


The RDS Team are back on the road visiting more cities and towns than ever before, spreading the spiced rum love and encouraging all bartenders out there to create some drinks and have the chance to be crowned champion. The national winner will then work alongside Daniel and Hamish in 2020 to create a new spiced rum.

The entire competition will be broken down into 3 rounds, starting at the end of April, and finishing up with the Grand Finals being held in Melbourne at the start of November 2019.

How to enter:

Entries are open to all active bartenders across Australia

Round One entries open 29th April 2019 and close 27th May 2019

Send your entry via email to competition@rumdiaryspiced.com

Your entry must contain:
Your name and venue

Cocktail recipe with name and ingredients

A high quality photo of your cocktail (Post to your Social media with the #RDScomp)

A small blurb describing your cocktail with why it works with Rum Diary Spiced

Round One Rules

Concept - Spiced, Stirred and Short Listed

Entry:

  • Competitors must use a minimum of 30mL Rum Diary Spiced Traditional

  • No shaken cocktails, but creative technique is encouraged, whether it be stirred, built, blazed etc etc.

  • Maximum 6 ingredients, plus garnish (Blended ingredients must be explained or will be judged as multiple ingredients)

  • Home-made ingredients are allowed

  • Cocktails will be shortlisted on photo and drink concept

How it will be judged:

  • All drinks will judged using the email submission, Photo/Concept/Recipe

  • All submissions will be divided into states before judging to get the Top 20 per State

  • All submissions will be judged anonymously

Round Breakdown:

Round One - Stirred, Spiced, and Shortlisted

This round is focusing on short, classically inspired cocktails.
Let your creativity flow to show us how you can spin the rule “No Shaken Drinks”
Entries open to everyone within Australia
29th April 2019 - 27th May 2019

Round Two - Two Up, Aussie Icons

The top competitors from Round One will be challenged to create any style of cocktail while using 1 or more of our Spiced Rums (Traditional, Royal Fortune, Cherry, Cocos Nucifera, and soon to be released Rum & Raisin) plus the range of Artisan Handcrafted Spirits (Nusa Cana, Patient Wolf, Tromba, Ezra Brooks)
This round is all about the blend of Spices and Spirits, as we get closer to the prize of creating your own spiced rum.

3rd June 2019 - 1st July 2019

The Top 4 drinks of each region will compete in their State Final parties

State Finals will take place in the respective capital cities on the following dates:

WA (including SA) - Perth - 29/07/06/2019 Sunday

VIC - Melbourne - 11/08/2019 Sunday

QLD (including rural FNQ) - Brisbane - 18/08/2019 Sunday

NSW (including ACT) - Sydney - 19/08/2019 Monday

Final Three - Grand Finals

We will be following the success of the 2017/18 ‘Of All Things Tiki, Land & Sea’ by bringing back the same concept, The winners of each state final will be flown to Melbourne for a weekend to take part in a series of challenges with the points adding up to reveal the winner of the Rum Diary Spiced National Cocktail Competition 2019.

The Grand Final winner will get to work on a pallet of custom made rum with 3 trips to Melbourne over 2020, working alongside the RDS team, also entry into The World Rum Awards 2020.

  • By entering a cocktail into the ‘From Cane To Glass’ Cocktail Competition you agree to allow Rum Diary Spiced and Artisan Handcrafted the rights to use any imagery or recipe for social media purposes in line with the ‘From Cane To Glass’ Competition.
    (No recipes will be published without consent before the judging of any round)
